Moon Society Nashville Outpost at Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory’s Planet Parade Watch 1/24/25

Hello all,

I presented my “Apollo to Artemis and Beyond” exhibit at Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory’s Planet Parade Watch 1/24 from 6-9:00 pm.

I talked with ~100 of their ~350 guests using spacecraft models of the Apollo Saturn V, LM, STS Space Shuttle, International Space Station with docked Dragon, Soyuz & Progress and Artemis’s SLS, Orion, Lunar Gateway, and SpaceX and Blue Origin’s Human Landing Systems. Commercial space models shown were Blue Origin’s New Shepard, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 with Crew Dragon, Falcon Heavy and Starship, Boeing’s Starliner on ULA Atlas V, and Sierra Space’s Dream Chaser.  Photo below.

I discussed the Artemis 1 and 2 Orion missions, Artemis 3 and 4 SpaceX crew landing missions and Artemis 5 and 6 Blue Origin’s crew landing missions.  I also talked about further Artemis plans for extended stays and larger landing crews. I displayed Perseverance’s Mars exploration path out of Jezero Crater and sample return tube and a future Mars base.

Volunteers showed eyeball and telescopic views of Venus, Mars, Jupiter and moons, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.  This was an impressive night of viewing.

Out next events are:

2/1. Warner Park star party with BSAS 6:30-8:30.

2/23. Adventure Science Center 9-5:00.

2/28. Dyer Telescope Night 8-10:00.
