Chuck Schlemm, MTSS and Nashville Outpost of the Moon Society, presented an astronomy and space exploration exhibit at the Burns, Tennessee Stuart Burns Elementary School STEAM Night from 5-7:00 Thursday March 13.
I had a great time sharing my astronomy and space exploration exhibits with an estimated 300 students and guests. I spoke directly with ~75-100 interested guests. See photos below.
I had 3 tables of spacecraft and rocket models from “Apollo to Artemis and Beyond” including Artemis Moon landers, SpaceX‘s Starship (the largest rocket ever flown), Moon and Mars bases and Mars rovers. I had globes of the Earth, the Moon, Mars and Mars’ moons, Phobos and Deimos and a model of the solar system showing where the planets are now. I also had a model of the James Webb Space Telescope.
I displayed a Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost, Artemis SpaceX and Blue Origin’s Lunar landers and a possible future Moon base while talking about current and future missions and possibilities for these students to live and work on the Moon someday.
I had a planetary gravity demonstration using milk jugs “from” the Earth, Moon, Mars, Phobos and Jupiter. Kids and adults were really surprised at the weight difference on these different solar system bodies.
I was joined by Tony Procter (a BSAS member) who presented a table of astronomy related materials, showed a telescope and binoculars used for astronomy and let many guests hold a meteorite. He also gave out BSAS brochures. I also displayed about 15 astronomy posters.
I gave out several Moon Society pamphlets.
I received many compliments and thanks for sharing our exhibits.
